Glad you asked about that - I was reading about it today in my copy, saw that and said, "huh?" How did he do that? Didn't see it in the article, however I only scanned it. I sort of thought there may be some internal stitch but have not given it much thought beyond that.

Welcome! And I feel the addiction comment. I walked away from the Heart of Texas Leather Show last August with a nice swivel knife and some Barry King stamps. Umm, I don't do much leather carving or stamping, Not sure I'll ever use all the Martin's Mix Edge solution, that smells suspiciously like watered down PVA. But the sellers were really friendly. ;-) To be fair, my wife picked a few stamps as well, and she picked out the leather for the purse I am making her (goal date - Dec 2023), so I felt justified.

Perhaps a bit late for your decision making process - I'll chime in regardless. I have one and it is currently gathering dust, having use it exactly once. High quality and as I recall all the instructions were in German - it was intuitive to me how to use it. I made a cover for my Kindle and it did a decent job, very even. I'm not an expert on it - it took patience. I suspect I'll go back to it at some point. Realistically, it is a fancy frame for a razor blade. I've been working on skiving by hand and finding the knife that works for me.

Useful responses all - thanks. I was hoping for some magical tidbit to substitute for hard work, practice, and experience. If it that simple, I suppose more people would be really good at this craft. Time to practice my persistence - and find some graph paper until I decide to learn some software. Over time, I suspect owning more than one set of irons might be useful, however, I've learned that iron size is more related to how "delicate" the project is.

So, you sorted out the tips, to include the questionably named burning tip. Have you used it enough to determine "would I buy this again?" I've got a spirit lamp and some manual creasers right now. I'm trying hard not to be that much of a "gear-do," and overbuy stuff - this one, or a clone, is alluring to me.

Hi Daniel, Indeed it is "sort of" me, perhaps a bit better looking. I was fooling around with an old boonie cap, Gabby Hays style (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_%22Gabby%22_Hayes) and my son improved on it. Perhaps the number one improvement was removing my glasses. Thanks for the warm welcome.
