I made a slightly modified version of the dieselpunk round bag for my wife. Lined with goat, and sewn with alternate colour stitching from Phil’s great sewing tutorial. Making the strap adjustable with Sam browns instead of a buckle is a nice way to go as there’s no buckle to catch on your clothes or hands. I also added a braided kangaroo leather key lanyard using a bleed knot at the clip end that transitions into a mystery braid. The veg tan leather marks really easily though, so that’s pretty disappointing. Otherwise, I’m very happy with it! The first time I used this pattern I made a bike bag, and this honestly came out nicer than I expected - to do it again I’d do a higher end job on edge finishing, maybe edge paint. And the bike bag for comparison. Same pattern, both modified in size, structure and materials.

I've been wanting to make a strop ever since seeing Phil's how-to video. I was at my car dealership recently for an oil change and saw that (for some reason) they sell charcuterie boards in their supply shop. So I talked them into giving me one, as it would make for a perfect strop platform. I couldn't find any canvas in a wide enough width to go side to side, but that's okay because I'll only be using this for my skiving knife. I have a vintage strop (pictured) that Ill be refinishing for use with my cutting knives It all went very well except for the creaser falling off the line in some spots on the "end caps" I made instead of using nails.
