I’ve used the Orion Calf series of dyes, and they’re excellent. You can absolutely achieve the ombré effects with them. I can’t remember her full name, but both knm leather and Laura Boos (Boos Leather) on instagram often have demos of their techniques. I’ve also combined them with Saphir polishes, and had no issues. Orion Calf also has a ‘Neutral Cream Wax‘ which gives a beautiful soft shine with some elbow grease, and a harder ‘Neutral Paste Wax’ as well. The glassage takes me back to my military days - never connected what we were doing to the toe caps of our black patent Army boots with such a lovely term as glassage 😊

I double checked, and sure enough, they are no longer stocking the colors, only the gloss / primer / thickener products. Looks like they are carrying vernis now, in matte colors. I bought Uniters bottles of the three primary colors, plus black and white, so luckily will be good for a while, but will definitely keep an eye out for you. District Leather Supply also used to have it and no longer does. thanks!!

so I took a look, cos google + curiosity......they’re exactly the same! And what confused me further was this, that I found listed on Etsy (under Dream Factory) - it has both logos on the same clamp.

@Leathercraft Masterclass thanks! I found if you scratch or rough up the surface with sandpaper, they work ok with the Aquilim Renia glue, but to your point, I’m usually securing with foot studs as well.

Really depends. From my side, I find that a good, easy to find and use stiffener for bags are the thin, plastic colored kitchen cutting mats. Easy to cut, relatively stiff but not too much so, and if you make a mistake cutting it, they also make great glue spreaders and only cost a few $ 😊

Thank you! great question! I did a little experimenting to get the slit length right. I ended up extending the length a few inches, to your point, to make sure the fit was good when sitting down. If the slit’s not high enough, the leather will ride up, but I also didn’t want it too long, given how regularly I drop things on myself 😛. I’ll take some better pictures with me wearing it, now that a) hubby is home and b) I’m self quarantined for the next two weeks 😕

@andimh thanks! I spend a lot of time thinking through all the details before I start on anything; functionality is really important to me. That’s a great idea making one out of split leather. I’ll admit, I did pause before cutting into the side - it’s a fair bit of leather! i reckon a pretty Sunday one would be perfect 👍😊

@paul p thank you! Yeah, I don’t think I’ll be wearing this one out anytime soon. It’s actually very comfortable to wear, as the straps distribute the weight pretty well, and the waist strap takes a fair bit of the load as well. I’ll have to hang on tight to my apron round any baristas then! 😊
