Ok, a question here. Sometimes, for example when they attach gussets, people pre-prick holes in both pieces and match up the holes and stitch. This is of course one instance when you may need reverse pricking irons. Or do you? Today I stitched together two pieces that were pricked individually with regular irons, just for fun. Perfectly angled stitches and identical look on front and back - without a cast. Why isn't this something that people do? I think I have heard of one guy saying he did it and that was years ago. Is there some great drawback?

I like experimenting and just plain making and am planning to use up some soft scrap leather for portfolio or clutch practice. The scraps need stiffening. What can i use between the layers? News paper? Canvas and shellac? Old shirts and a lot of glue? Satanic incantations? Hi guys, what kind of lighting do you use where you work? I guess I'm getting older, but good lighting is becoming crucial. 😂

If I buy a leather splitter, the kind with a fixed blade that you pull straps and such through, how versatile is this? Belts and straps, I'm sure it is perfect for that. But could i split panels wide enough to make wallet card pockets from and so on? Or do i mainly get a strap thinning machine?

Friends, I need new slippers and I am going to make them from leather. Does anyone have a pattern for some kind of slipper upper, so I don't have to spend a year trying to figure out how to make one? 🤣

Hi, Anders here. I have dabbled in leathercraft for several years now, but most of the time a bit too little. Learned most of what I know from the few Youtube vids available then, and so happy for the many leathercraft friends I have made since. This has exploded! When not leathercrafting I am a father of two and I work in communications. Can be found on Instagram: @atelier_javlar

I have watched and read everything I can find when it comes to backstitching when you start and finish a seam. I still have problems. More often than not, actually. For example, many times I can't for my life fit a needle on top of a thread when the recipe tells calls for it. How did you master the perfect parallell backstitching? /Anders

Any tips? Maybe other brands than John James. For finer seams and threads and smaller holes.

Hi, Hoping for some pointers! I am talking to a knifemaker acquaintance about making me a skiving knife, English style. Does anyone have a tip on the best angle of the blade? 45 degrees, is that ideal? Or should the angle be more obtuse (??), like in the drawing on the right? Also, are there pros and cons I should think about when it comes to the width of the knife? Thicker steel and a longer edge (because of a very acute angle or wide blade) means tougher sharpening. But maybe a long edge has advantages that are worth the extra sharpening? /Anders

Hi, I use snap buttons in various projects, but I find them really difficult to set in a reliable way. They look like crap, they come of, the post is too short or too long, and so on. Yesterday I concluded that it must have something to do with one or several of the following alternatives: 1. I suck. 2. I buy the snaps from eBay because I am cheap. 3. My setting tools look like they were turned on a homemade lathe by a hoofed animal, not sure what kind. Question: What buttons and tools do you use and how do I improve in this area? Cheers, Anders
