G'day peeps,
My trial for my sunglasses case. It's just $h!^^ leather, but I wanted to have a go before I move onto more expensive leather. I'm happy with how this looks (for a trial). I'm happy with how my stitching is getting along. It's lined... and the lining all kinda 'just works'. The waxed edging I recokon is great! the leather lined clip is fun to do, and looks a million bucks.
I've seen some of 'youse' do really sick edging... any tips? cause mine kinda suck. It's got a waxed edge, so could I use edge paint on that... also I've got vedge tanned on the outside and chrome tanned on the inside (for the liner), I reckon that's a mistake for 'main event'.
Criticism and feedback welcome and invited.
Great advice. Thanks for the feedback.... follow up project (another sunglasses case) in progress. Ty!
Just to add what hasn't already been said by Fadi:

Yes, get more hours of practice in. Use scraps, practice on different leathers and build up your skill through repetition. Boring answer but true.

Not a mistake, however you may notice that the cut edge on the chrome tanned side doesn't burnish as well as the veg tan side. If this is an issue, edge paint (without wax) would finish the edges a little more consistently.
Hello hello hello,
I would personally do not encourage you to use Edge Paint on your waxed edges. For the simple reason that the wax will act as a barrier between the Edge Paint and the leather fiber, which means the edge paint will not bond and will peel in no time at all. A trick I use (which i got from Phil) is coating my edge pain applicator with Beeswax so when i need to clean them, the paint just peels right off. That is just to tell you how badly edge paint and wax go together.
From your pictures, I have the impression that you are pushing too hard on the edge when burnishing. This is causing them to dome out (or "Mushroomize"). Keep the pressure light, barely even there when burnishing. The best thing to do is to let the slicker sit on the edge and just apply sideways movement, no downward movement. This will give you a better looking edge.
