Hi There,
I saw someone on the train a few months ago, with a laptop cover like an envelope. liked the look of it, although his looked like it was one piece of leather folded and the seams sewed together. i have been trying to put something together on computer. i have attached screen grabs of what i have put together. Hopefully i can get a paper mock up made later this week or early next to look at. A bit ambitious, but hopefully i can put something together.
this is the overall plan of what i will need, one main piece and 2 side pieces. i have worked it out to the pricking irons i have, so have been trying to get all the seams to fall in the right places and the sharp points to be single awl pricks.
as this image shows. has taken a while working how the prick marks will fall on a curve. still working on finding an easier way, although it is eluding me at the moment.
i was thinking of doing it in goatskin on the outside, lined with either lambskin or calfskin. this is still not resolved yet, neither are colours, thinking black or navy blue outside and bright contrast inside with the edges in the dark colour and dark thread.
to close it - where i have marked sectors of circles top and bottom, i was thinking of sewing in a thin piece of the fridge magnet stuff, and in the bottom some thin sheet of nickel you can buy off ebay. i need to test how thin a magnet i can get away with, the nickel sheeting is about .2mm so if i can get one of the fridge magnet sheets no thicker than .4mm and cut to the shape, i hope it will have enough pull to close it, and keep it closed.
i dont plan on having anything else in the lining, not sure how to do it to be honest so trying to keep everything as simple as possible.
below are a couple of shots of how it will look together. just need to finish working out where the side pieces and the bottom piece will stitch together.
thanks
no i havent, but i will have a search. thanks
@Maru Tuchi has a similar project ... have you seen her version?
