Hi There, every year we have to decorate an egg for a work colleague, so this year decided to make something they could maybe use afterwards. not entirely happy as it was a bit rushed. if i had more time the next one would be a lot better.
it is in veg tan shoulder, with the lining veg tan goat. chose these so i could burnish the edges rather than spend a weekend or so with edge paint. used an old set of 7spi irons so the stitches are slightly longer, like the look of that.
thanks
@paul p It looks amazingš»!
Looks great, nice work.
@paul p Some may wonder if a Cadbury's Dairy Milk egg is worth making a leather case for. Yes, yes it is! Love it.
Beautiful work Paul, did you use a wooden form?
no problems. yes, agree with the palasanto, good for wallets etc, but if i make belts or anything thick, prefer the ones i have put together. sounds good if you are getting some made. i have about 4 of those handles now, one has a thick blunt needle in, the others have different size awl blades. one thing with those handles, is make sure that the vice ends close up totally, bought some first which when closed had about a 2mm round hole - useless.
the awl for that is one i made really. the palasanto and doldokki awls i use for most things, the blades arent really wide enough and they dont like going through 6 - 7mm of leather. so i bought some awl blades and handles from here https://www.decocuir.com/lame-alene-cuir-diamant-affutee-point-sellier-outil-couture-losange-c2x25244545 it was either that awl or the 50mm one
and followed philips video on sharpening awl blades. didnt take too long, and i have done a few more since. i like the handles, as i can replace the blades, but they close up so they can accept needles as well.
Nice box! I have yet to make one. What type of awl did you use to puncture the holes? I love that the valance (?) is all the way to the bottom and not just shortened at the top.
