My main job is as an arborist and leatherwork is something I do as a little side-line. I needed a new holder for my secateurs and came up with this idea. Other arborist friends saw what I had made and I soon had orders for more. Tell me what I did wrong. Tell me how to improve. Cheers.

I think had this been a custom blade or high quality tool then you would want a sheath to match. With a tool purely based on function, a sheath to match it's utilitarian nature is all that is required.
So I can't really say that there is anything to improve here or that you did anything wrong.
