First share in the forums. I created a shotgun shell bag for hunting and sporting clays. The used a template from Odin Leathergoods as the initial design and expanded it to include a secondary shell compartment and a front flat pocket for utility. Happy to take/post more pics if people are interested.
Wickett & Craig in Olive. La Bretagna in Orange Ghost Camo. Scrap calfskin liner in the front pocket. Gunmetal hardware. Dark Green Tiger Ritza 0.8mm. (Belt and Buckle were awards from a shooting tournament from 10+ years ago).
Lots and lots of mistakes made, but overall I am fairly happy with how the bag came out. I regret not sucking it up and committing to skiving. And working with double-sided gussets was really a pain, but I learned a lot about how NOT to do it. Biggest lesson for me was to start writing out all my steps and crossing them off my list methodically. So many "errors" were somewhat-hidden that could have been entirely avoided if I had just slowed down. Case in point: the clasp evolved to finally work but was certainly not originally designed this way.
I had a chance to use it this last weekend on a quail hunt. It may be a bit big for hunting, but the extra large size should come in handing for recreational shoots. It wears very comfortably on the hip, and the internal phone slot is really convenient. For my first significant project, I do give myself one single pat on the back 😂
Nice work there! I actually like the burnished edge on the bags, I think it fits. You could always dye and burnish instead of edge paint next time. The patina on those bags is going to be epic I think.
PS. I also wish I had taken the time to edge paint the entire bag. The edges are very well sanded and smooth, but edge paint would have been a nicer touch. The raw edge burnish distracts my eye.
