I recently made a 9mm snap of knife following Phil's blog post, but using HDPE for scales from recycled bottles by melting into a blob then compressing it into a mold. I then planed down the blocks and glued them on. I rasped down the scales for the bevel (a bit too much, you can see the gouges in the final result), then just sanded to 2000 grit and polished with a Dremel and a felt wheel. I'm pretty happy with the final result 😁
