Leatherworking has been on my 'to try' list fsince I bought a piece of 4.5mm thick natural veg tan to punch out cirles from to re make a stacked leather handle for a vintage Estwing hammer about 6 years now.
The leather laid in the packaging and never saw the light of day and the hammed got tossed in the bin never to be swung in anger again.
In November 2024 I had back surgery and was bored silly during my reupoeration/rest period of 6 weeks and the idea of small projects to keep me busy came back to me and this was the ideal opportunity to dip my toe in the leathercraft pond......
Here I am 3 months later with more card wallets than I'll need in any lifetime and I've sold a knife sheath and a cigar holder and I just love working with leather.
I find cutting to a pattern accurately quite frustrating but find stitching quite relaxing (when it's all going to plan!)
I'm looking forward to learnign some techniques which will give my work that extra quality detail and turn some of it from functional to beautiful.
