At age 75 I've returned to leathercraft after a-40 year absence. A lot has changed, especially the internet, which has now more advice and tutorials on leathercraft than ever existed when I last tried it. Lacing was all the rage then, and there was almost nothing available on stitching. Thankfully that has all changed, and Phil Jury's tutorials are the cream on the cake.
My question relates to Phil's pattern for the long wallet. I've been asked to make one for a lady friend, but she would like to add a zipped coin purse to the outside. I'm not sure that this is as easy as it sounds. Does anyone have any ideas? For instance, do I make a complete purse and stitch it to the wallet, or do I make a one-sided purse and use the wallet's casing for the other side?
Thanks
Cyril Jones, Melbourne
75! Wow, hope I will do leatherwork at that age! Respect !
Thanks Philip, I'll give it a try
@cjones Hi Cyril and welcome to the forum!
In answer to your question, the wallet design would ideally need to factor in a coin section since the idea of the wallet was to make the slimmest coat wallet possible, so as to make it invisible though a light coat from the outside.
Both those ideas could work potentially, so it may be worth making a couple prototypes to see which works best. A one sided purse would make the design slimmer.
