Recently I made a bag for a many times returning customer and as I had acquired an embossing machine in between her orders I blind embossed my logo on the leather which I had not done previously. She let me know that she loves the bag but doesn't like the logo on
it and suggested I ask customers if they want it or not. I would love to hear opinions on this issue as I have such conflicting emotions
about it.
I believe all artists should sign their work. In the beginning, I simply signed the interior of my handbags and journals (and still do), but now I also brand them in a subtle fashion, as to not distract from the simplicity of the design (often under a flap or on the interior). If you do not brand/sign your work, you leave yourself open to having it stolen and if so, then the only thing of which to prove authenticity, will be your signature/brand. I have actually had clients want me to add a larger brand to their pieces; it was quite an honor actually!
Sign your work with excellence!!!
