Glad you asked about that - I was reading about it today in my copy, saw that and said, "huh?" How did he do that? Didn't see it in the article, however I only scanned it. I sort of thought there may be some internal stitch but have not given it much thought beyond that.

Very interesting technique! No, I can't say I've ever seen this before outside of woodwork.
I wonder if the leather parts will separate over time with shrinkage, or there is some other way they are connected outside of being press fit.
I imagine something similar could be achieved with pinking shears.
