Good morning everyone, Yasmin here. May I please have some help/advice/input?
I'm in the process of constructing my first handbag and have chosen to edge paint some elements of it. After watching Philip's videos, and trying it myself, I am not getting the same results - although likely down to the product I'm using... Angelus edge paint (please don't cringe if you are cringing lol, this relates to part 2 of this essay). Essentially the edge paint isn't holding its form and is completely filled with tiny bubbles which, when sanding, then requires you to nearly sand the whole lot off to achieve a smooth surface.
So my question to you is:
• IF you have used Angelus edge paint AND also used say Uniters as Philip recommends, is there a structutral difference between the two? Basically I'm trying to figure out if I am doing it wrong, or is the issue with using a lesser quality product?
• If you are based in Australia, where are you getting your Uniters from? I have spoken with their distributor here in Aus and they do not and will not get it in for me. Or are you buying from abroad? Which supplier do you find most reliable?
Thanks everyone for reading, I appreciate all of your feedback!
Hi Philip, here’s a link.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/263703866767
I bought it a while ago thinking it would do another job. If you’d like to see it in use just shout.
Shaking the bottle? yes! Lol. Deary me. I’ll see how I get on tomorrow. Thank you!
@Yasmin I didn't even know Angelus made edge paint! Do you have a link?
Bubbles are common after shaking the bottle before use. If that is what you are doing I recommend using a clean stirrer, or shaking the bottle up the day before.
i have used both with similar results
it is best to have a somewhat rough surface not super smooth so the edge paint can soak in some i also find it best to use a base coat first and then the final color coat
if you are having bubbles it could be too thin of product
they make a thickener to solve this to add to the paint to solve this
i am in the usa so have buckleguy, rocky mountain leather supply and springfield leather other than just tandy
make sure to let it dry and put multiple thin coats
best of luck
