It's not so bad if the binding is trimmed after the second row of stitches, but it would be difficult to continue the lining inside the wallet or bag for example without obvious creasing. Your leather choice would need to be very pliable such as chrome tanned lambskin.
I would probably go for a traditional binding in this kind of situation.
I have seen it done, I understand how it can be done (and how much skill it requires), yet i do not think that i could currently do it on a bag for example. On a small card holder, i believe i would pull it off.
It is all in taking into consideration how the leather will fold and warp because of the curve and how to stretch it. And allow for that in your cutting
