i have some osborne ones, and they just dont move, they are so solid. cheaper ones are liable to twist. the other thing is the ends are round, so mark the leather much better. i have also bought vintage ones from ebay, and they are usually very well made as long as you make sure the legs look straight, and they are usually much cheaper. something like this looks good.
i have about 4 pairs of dividers, and if i am working on things, i can have them set to different widths and keep them set till the project is finished. its the same with rules and rule stops, i have a few of these so i can set them to different measurements
The one on the left is the Osborne set. The others I paid between £8 and £13 for which is much better. It is just a matter of waiting, as some people want stupid money for vintage tools. I try to get them with the micro adjuster wheel, makes small adjustments so much easier. One bad thing with the osbornes is that they wont go below 3mm, the vintage ones I have all will.
