Hi there - I marked the Edge off the knife - with a pen - however - it’s not coming off - when grinding - so I assume no contact between the knife and grinding wheel - how do I fix this? appreciate any help
Thanks for your your reply - sort of, lol, it just takes some trial and error, with adjusting the angle of the stone. just comes with practice. Are you currently having a similar problem?
Many times we think a two-minute touch-up grind is sharpening the edge when it is not. Periodically, we need to do a 10-minute grind to mate the stone properly with the knife edge.
I now periodically mark only the tip of the knife edge so I can see immediately if the stone is sharpening the edge. If I see no ink removal, I know to do a longer grind.
You're going to need to remove the feed roller assembly, put on some cut resistant gloves, pull out your skiving machine's power cable, reach inside and adjust the angle of the grinding wheel.
Depending on your machine, you may notice there are grub screws (or set screws in the US) to loosen and adjust the pitch or angle of your wheel until it makes full contact with the bell knife.
think I got there in the end. Last thing, I’ve skived - 2 pieces of leather - same angle and all - one has skived perfectly - the other jaggered - also - seemed to be eaten under the knife - Is this due to needing the knife to be sharpened again?
Make sure you engage the clutch by pulling out the lever on the right side of the machine. Use the left knob from the center (there's usually 2 big knobs paired close to each other) to bring the grinding stone closer to the blade. Engage the rotor, the blade should be grinding against the stone and you should see sparks coming off it.
Did you solve the problem?
Looking at your last picture, it looks like the knife is far away from the presser foot? There should only be a small gap of .2mm to .5mm.

Do not continue to grind at the current angle.
It seems to be only sharpening the top off the blade - but not the actual blade - at the bottom -
