Hi! So after Philip's review of the 4Z pricking irons I got myself a set, with two sets of prongs: French and olive. I'm kind of in love with my new irons and I was wondering if over time they will need some sharpening (I assume they will). If that's the case, how do you sharpen them? Thanks!

Hello,
I have been using the same set of Pricking Irons for 4 years now I think and I never had to sharpen them. well, yet at least.
But, in case you ever need to, watch this video by Phil, it will give you a very good idea what to do.
I'm curious, which teeth do you prefer?
Good choice! I have 4 sets of the 4Z irons that I've had for about two years. No sign of them needing to be sharpened. I don't know if they will ever need to be sharpened if they are treated with care and used properly with the right kind of base material when punching all the way through leather. With certainty I can say they will never need to be sharpened if you are just pricking, and then using an awl to penetrate through the leather completely.
Congratulations on your new irons! I would say is will be a long time until they need sharpening. From what I remember they are 440c stainless steel.
As they are already very sharp, you could every so often run each prong along the edge of a strop on both sides.
