Hi all,
My latest leather knife just shipped off to it's new owner. It's the first time I've used this blade steel and I'm very happy with the results. The steel is M390, it's a high carbon stainless steel and it has a high wear and corrosion resistance.
The knife is 160mm overall and the blade is 2.3mm thick and 34mm wide. The handle is Thuya burl and the handle pins are 4mm diameter tube with 5 pins inside.
If you are making your own knife or planning to, please feel free to ask any questions you have.
Cheers
Hey Doug, This knife is beautiful. I wanted to pick your brain on the type of knife you recommend for skiving. I want to get this style but was interested in what material is best for keeping sharp the longest. To this point I have been trying to work with cheap ones that I keep sharpening on diamond plates and it feels like I get less than one skive out of them before I need to sharpen again. I plan to buy one but want to make the right choice because these 10 dollar ones are driving me nuts. Also I should note I’m a novice at sharpening unlike you and Phil.
@Doug Very nice work Doug! I really like the pattern in the pins.
