So I've been scouring aliexpress for a brass letter set and type holder to attach to the universal tip that I got from Rock mountain.
I want to be able to stamp or hot foil areas that would otherwise be too awkward to do with my Metallic Elephant machine. Plus I just like the skill of freehand stamping.
The universal tip that came with my Summit X1 creaser from RMLS has an M5 thread, which seems to be what these type holders use.
For comparison, the Regad equivalent type holder is $349.00 and the type set that goes with it is $1499.99, bringing the total to: one second hand car, a night out, and a gorilla mask.
What do you guys think? They all have pretty decent reviews, worth a try?
She married Mr. Gavin so you gotta figure she’s pretty smart.
Tool exchange is a good idea. You could tell her you bought it for her for Christmas so you could deboss all the lovely things you’ll make for her this year because she’s so unique and special you want her things to be unique and special for her, too. You could’ve got a cheaper set from Thailand but she’s worth more than that. You want her to have the best So you went with this one.
Announce it with pride and joy. “Honey! Honey, look what I got for you. I’m so sorry it won’t get here in time for Christmas but you’ll love it when it comes.“
Only finding this post now. My tuppence worth is that while I don't own an M/Elephant unit just yet, the correspondence I've had is second to none and falls into the "these chaps are legit" category. I can't justify the expenditure just yet, but it's where I'm going come the time. The Thai guys were sharp and helpful in their correspondence, but I'm going with my gut on this one. The way I see it, I could buy the H'n'H and likely move on to the M/Elephant and spend more or just go Elephant from the word go. It's going to have to "magically" appear on my bench somehow without my wife seeing me haul it in. Suggestions for an appropriate method are very welcome.
If you email them from the contact page they will be right in touch. Great people to work with. Just ordered one with letter set and a stamp die. probably shipping in a couple days.
How much are the Metalic Elephant presses? I followed the link, but there are no prices. I am not sure what HDR is, but I orddered a large alphabet stam and a couple of makers marks from Hex N Hit a couple of years ago. I like using the stamps and found the people good to deal with. I cut down on charges and postage by getting them to courier them to my hotel when I was in Bangkok on holiday.
Ah Talitha, that sounds like a challenge! 😄 We must figure this out!
I'll do another new post about gold gilding. Essentially the text or logo has to be moved back and forth then left and right in order to get an even impression.
With free hand stamping it's almost impossible to apply even pressure, just my experience of course. I could never get this right until I got my Metallic Elephant. I have also heard that the alphabet or logo pieces used for the regad are hard to warm up consistently since there is so much material to heat up. It is an option but not 100% recommended for the best results.
Thanks for Hex clarification. Don’t personally know anyone that used them. They get lots of press. Looking forward to receipt of an Elephant. I trust your experience with them. I just don’t think I could do a good job solely by hand and didn’t want to pay nearly half the price to find out I was right And spend as much again on leather in a practice learning curve.
Oh for sure, I won't be giving up my KSF Mini any time soon, I wouldn't be able to get that depth of stamp by hand.
As for hex and smash, just not my scene, way too much HDR on their stamps 🤣
Looking at their range, the type font is really shallow, not ideal. I also recognise that everything they produce is available direct from china on the usual sites for much less.
I did not try that and just ordered the Metallic Elephant system after a month of looking around. I have very low tolerance for failure. Like you said, it’s a used car and a night out, etc., to risk the setup, so I bought a better used car.
Have you checked Hex-N-Hit For fonts and stamps.
