Hello, as I am from Germany I regularly see the knifes from Herder, a company with a long history starting from about 1700. I wrote to them and you can buy directly from them. They say that special orders/changes to the knifes they sell are possible too. The blades are made of high speed steel with an - they say - 'extremely high amount of carbon', so a very hard and longlasting sharp blade. I have to say that I never used a knife of them but in the moment I am thinking about getting one. If you have heard any critics or used one of them, please leave a comment with your thoughts. In the following link you can get a catalogue and ask for a price list. I would get all catalogues because bookbinders knife or knifes from other trades could be interesting too. The knives are not expensive, the retail price for the skiving knive is only 35€. The skiving knife has a handle with a 13cm long blade. The round knife is 75€. Any thoughts are welcome! website: https://www.herder-solingen.de/e/industry/index.htm https://www.herder-solingen.de/e/catalogue/index.htm
Man, i have something for patern knives!
I do not own one, but i have been debating for the past year wether to get one or to get a rounded knife.
And i am looking for something made in High Speed Steel (Mostly because i live in a very humid area and HSS is extremly slow to rust).
I think i will get the round off off Abbey's :)
@kilian They sell some of that range at Abbey England. I believe that is the old round knife shape in the picture.
Known as the 'Don Carlos' round knife:

The price before tax is £36.05. You would probably save money buying it in England and bringing ol' Don Carlos back home.
Sorry, yes, exactely.
Try it! Probably good stuff!
I have recently come to the conclusion that there are a lot of stuff for leatherwork that is made in Germany. Since I live in Sweden I have started to map good dealers and online stores. This far, I have like two and I misplaced the list. 😂
If you have any tips, please post them!
