After a few weeks of practical use in the workshop, I thought I would give my opinions on the high speed steel edition skiving knife from Vergez Blanchard with a list of pros and cons as well as minor modifications that I have made to improve the design.
What skiving knife do you use and what modifications have you made to it?
Philip
Had my first go with my Blanchard today need more practice but I'm impressed with it so far
Well my Blanchard arrived today so I’ve had a lovely day sharpening, think I could shave with it now if I was brave enough. Next thing is learn to use it :)
Good video !
Its funny about steel. There really isn't a "best" knife steal. SSH steel, is softer. So stropping will bring sharpness back quick.
Different steel, for different tasks. The steel used on chartermade, is SO hard. Holds and edge for loooong, but stropping wont bring it back ones it's gone.
Great review Phil. Do you think that push skiving technique would be possible with a Japanese skiving knife? The ones that are squarish in shape?
