Anyone tried the colored tokonoles?
I recently picked up some black tokonole and it works pretty well on the test pieces I tried it on. It's very effective at coloring the edges and flesh side and so far has less rub off than when I use Fiebings Pro dye.
I have three that I use. The natural, brown and black. Havent had any issues. If you are dying the pieces, then just using the natural probably would suffice. Just my 2 cents. 🙂
That's interesting. I've never found tokonole that precise to apply compared to pure dye from a sponge/pen applicator, which is normally what I'd use before a tokonole burnish.
Being that thick, do you get much colour penetration from the black tokonole? If you cut a cross section of your leather edge after application and burnishing, how deep does it penetrate? For areas of high wear, deep penetration of dye is crutial.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
Hey Yiggort,
I have got a tub of the brown but in all honestly was a little underwhelmed with it. I found that the colouring wasn't quite dark enough to really make a huge difference (something the black probably doesnt have a problem with) I was recently thinking about experimenting with using a water based dye to colour neutral tokonole as it's water based itself. If I end up doing it I will keep you posted on my results 🙂
Hi, Yiggort
Would you mind sharing some photos? Like before and after?
