Hi guys,
The whole aim of this post is to solve some of my problems with rulers, while at the same time trying to find the best rulers for workshop purpose.
Problems I have with rulers:
1. I use normal steel rulers and I notice they warp every so slightly in the middle. A 0.5mm warp is negligible but I would still prefer super straight cuts.
2. The markings fade off over time. Only the etch remains making it hard to see the markings.
Do you guys also face these problems ? and what rulers do you'll use ?
Shinwa rulers are very good for their price and are very legible. Tajima is also a nice brand You can add thin anti slip tape underneath to minimise slipping :)
I haven't had issues with rules not being straight, but i did notice i was getting bowed cuts at times when i was using the ruler as a guide for my cut. Since i use a clear acrylic ruler, i got some of this clear grip film https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00013MU3Q?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_asin_title to take care of the slipping that was causing the bow and i haven't had any issues since. It doesn't attach permanently, its more of a static cling sort of thing, but it hasn't come off so far. There is also grip tape for metal rulers on Weavers site, but you can probably get it cheaper on amazon although i don't know the name.
