Posting here wondering if anyone has more articulated directions for using Non Adhesive Velodon reinforcement. Have tried a number of things and while they've all more or less worked, none felt optimal... or correct.
When using EcoWeld:
Applying EcoWeld directly to Velodon results in a lot of it seeping all the way through out the other side, making me question if I'm applying way too much, or if that's sort of intended. I'm using a foam craft brush, which I had great luck with when trying to minimize how much contact adhesive I apply to microsuede to prevent that same seep-through and a ruined liner. This method results in high probability I get glue on the surface of something I can't wipe it off of later, especially when using "non-protected" leathers and liners.
Waiting 15 minutes for the EcoWeld to dry when applied to Velodon seems like it leaves nearly zero tackiness.
Things I'm considering: Treating velodon like Phillip pre-glues canvas and applying ecoWeld while it's on a sheet of plastic and letting it dry a full day before (ironing if necessary?) then applying more and sticking layers together once tacky.
Apply zero glue directly to Velodon, apply a second layer to the leather it's stiffening, and let the extra glue and extra tackiness stick to it.
Swapping to solvent based adhesive and trying everything again.
Buying Velodon with adhesive backing and once again starting over with experimentation.
Before moving on. Are you absolutely certain you are using real Velodon? Glue shouldn't soak into it at all, not like cheaper non woven interlinings (even from the same brand) which is why I've only ever had luck with solvent contact adhesive.
