Hi All,
I found an online posting for a used bell skiver a few hours from me. So far the person posting did not have a lot of info. What are some questions that I should ask or things i should look out for? I was thinking it would be a few years before I got a skiver but that time may move up if this is a good enough deal. Thank you.
Thank you very much, Phil. I have not heard back from them about my questions.
@andimh I would probably ask them for pictures of the underside so you can post them here for us to look at.
Has this machine been used in a commercial setting with daily use, or an individual artisan?
Is there any play in the blade? (does it rattle when moved?) Belts, blades, feed rollers etc all wear out, but if the bushings need changing then that could get expensive.
It's difficult when buying used online as you only have their honesty to go on. I would only do this if the price was very good as I would accept the fact that I will probably need to work on it in some capacity. Sending it back if their are major repairs needed will be quite a challenge.
If it is a distributor of machinery and they add a warranty with it, go for it as long as you trust them.
