The solution for the line down the middle is easy: Do not add another layer before having thouroughly sanded down the line in the previous layer. Even if you go back to the edge on the sides, do not stop until that line has disapeared.
Depending on the grit used, it might take time. I roughly sand for maybe 10mins per edge with a 600 gritt with just a light press.
@Fadi I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of an issue in dry or hot climates where the edge paint dries much faster. I very rarely get the issue myself in the UK.
I'm thinking of performing some drying tests in a humidified chamber vs a dry chamber to see the difference.
I'll probably use the edge of a 3mm sheet of glass to squash the 'it's absorbing' argument.
What I noticed though after running some tests is the thicker the layer, the deeper the "valley" in the middle.
And I do not believe it is a leather absorption issue as the first layer usually does not develop and deep line, like 30secs of sanding and you are good to go. The second and third layers is where it is all at.
For me, I found that my best edge work comes from 1st and 2nd thick coats (Or 1 primer + 1 thick coat) with a medium third. Work the best for me.
Hello! Wondering if you have found a solution to line down the middle? I'm also having problem with line in the middle after 3-4 coats of edge paint. I lightly sand (as per video). apply layer 1, and repeat. I've tried using heat, thicker and thinner coats but still end up with line down the middle. No matter how much I sand and add layers, I can't seem to get rid of the line down middle of edge. I am using Vernis brand edge paint on alran and badalassi carlo leathers.
i got to about 6 coats still line running through the centre uneven surface
i did a trial version with gum trag last and bent the leather forwards and back seems to be holding fine, and the surface is smooth even after one coat
I'm literally into the 4th coat and in no way shape or form is it a rounded edge, still has a line going through the centre and flat.
seems like the leather is absorbing all the edge paint, I'm wondering if it's worth adding some kind of sealant on the edge first like gum trag before adding the edge paint.
maybe the edge paint viscosity is not thick enough
Thanks! I’ll do that on my next project this weekend

Any advice?

Does anyone know of any UK shops that sell Uniters?
That’s after 6 coats still needs sanding which will probably almost take it down to bare leather again
definitely not

Are you diluting the paint ?

The first coat is always absorbed, it’s normal. After 2 or 3 coats you will notice the difference. Which edge paint are you using? And which leather?
Do you mean the paint is absorbed into the edge? Onto the face of the leather like a stain? Other?
Sometimes it helps to post photos if you can.
