Does anyone know which suede linings are the best and where to source them? I found some pig suede but they always seem to have hair folicals pores visable and just doesn't look clean.
I’ve found Tandy Leather suede works ok but not great. Color variations and holes/marks can issues. They are thin so they work well if you don’t need them as a stiffener. I tried Weaver Leather and their suede is too thick for most linings I want to do. I also found some dye rub off with their black suede.
I use goat from Rocky Mountain Leather Supply and love it.
Also started using upholstery fabric in duffles and totes. Upholstery fabric comes in hundreds of colors, patterns and many price ranges. Depending on the application, upholstery fabric can be a great alternative.
Personally my favourite linings are kidskin suede or lambskin. Lambskin is not as strong as goat/kid so doesn't do well when turned into suede (surface buffing), but as @Daniel W. said, if the tannery has done a good job and dyed it through then the flesh side can be used instead.
Alcantara is also a popular alternative as it can be bought in sheet lengths, it's easy to clean (made from polyester), any colour under the sun and durable.
Got the same problem here ... hehehe ... I want to make a mini bag with goat skin. but I'm a confused about the linning. what leather should I use for lining ... suede or other chrome skin (goat).
Sounds like I'll give the Rocky Mountain goat a shot. Thanks for all the suggestions and insights
