Stiching :D I been getting some lower back pain recently. And I thing its they way I sit. I use this chair, and its super, but maybe not for stitching. I find it to tall maybe. When I angle the stitching clam, I can't get my feet down to the floor.
So, how to you sit, when using a clam. Do your feet touch the ground? Do you use a speciel chair?
I know this is a old post, but did you fix the back pain. i would like to know
I usually stand because I sit for most of the day at work. I have a clam by Dream Factory that I clamp to the kitchen counter.
Thank you for sharing this post. I used a French clamp too and my back aches. I’ll give the block a try.
@Daniel W. Is that a Capisco chair, if so how do you like it? I have been wanting to order one for a long time.
Yeah the lamp works like a charm. :D Then I sit and rewatch Dexter while im sewing along :D
@Daniel W. I agree with our mates, using the French clam is at first a bit difficult. Once you get the point, things are less complicated.
When I feel totally tired of using it at 45 degrees, I usually fold it (I have a foldable one), put it between my legs and continue to stitch with it completely straight. But I do it just when I feel tired and want to finish faster.
On the other hand, I will adopt that idea of the lamp in the clamp! I hadn't thought of it. Another reason to visit Ikea soon :)
I only just started using french clams. have done maybe 10-12 hours on them. I put a box under my left leg.
But what helps me the most are my wife forcing me to stretch every 20 to 30mins. I take a quick 2 minutes break and do pilates back stretching exercises (nothing advanced, basic stuff). This really helps a lot.
I had this same issue with my lower back. If you put a block or solid box on the floor and you put your left foot on it so its raised off the floor while you stich... it will feel soooo much better on your back. Also you can twist the chair so the backing is up against your left shoulder and lean on it while you stitch. If your lefty... just reverse everything I just wrote. I found English stitching ponies way more comfortable than the French clams becuase your sitting straight up. French clams definitely takes some getting used to.
