Hi,
I use snap buttons in various projects, but I find them really difficult to set in a reliable way. They look like crap, they come of, the post is too short or too long, and so on.
Yesterday I concluded that it must have something to do with one or several of the following alternatives:
1. I suck.
2. I buy the snaps from eBay because I am cheap.
3. My setting tools look like they were turned on a homemade lathe by a hoofed animal, not sure what kind.
Question:
What buttons and tools do you use and how do I improve in this area?
Cheers,
Anders
Does anyone know the meaning of these numbering #633 #665 #201 #203? I have been searching on the internet but did not find out yet.
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of snap buttons. There's nothing wrong with them but they just feel a little flimsy. It's definitely not high end hardware.
As far as answering your question, if you are spending less than a drink at a cocktail bar on a snap button kit, you're not making it easy on yourself.
Check out abbeyengland.com where they are known as 'durable dots'. Pretty sure they have to tools too.
I have used them in the past where a client wants them or where there wasn't a practical alternative, but I normally wrap them in leather:
Hey man,
the main issue i think is Number 2: you buy from ebay.
I had the same issue when i started, i got stuff off ebay and amazon, utter shit! now, i get my snaps from www.buckleguy.com and i use some cheap ass tools i got for like 10$ and the results are great!
Regarding issue N1, ie you sucking, explain to us how you set them, upload a video if you can, maybe we could help you :)
A photo of your tools would help us to help you.
You forgot No 4: Snaps are evil and want you to fail!
