Hello Leathercraft Masterclassers,
I’m looking for a heads up on the below brass hardware. One is a D-ring with an angled flat and the other is a ornate hook attached by rivets. I’d prefer to attach by screws, personally. I don’t mind rivets, but I’m always petrified that I’ll make a balls of it. Anyhow, it’s a Sam Browne belt in the making (prototype) and this hardware isn’t available from Buckleguy. The ones in the pictures we’re ripped off a belt from Pakistan so I might start looking there. Wish me luck with that.
Thanks I’m advance!
...Abbey England. Sorted.
Thanks for that Phil and @uweihen. Rivets are hammered in. The studs are screwed. Just so there's no confusion, this is not my work. This is what was supplied to the company that want a different take on it. Without getting into specifics, you would not believe what is charged for some of these and how poor the workmanship is. Clearly, fine leathercraft is not what they were after. The leather feels poor, no edge finishing, machine stitching, creases clearly machined. But economies of scale, being what they are means this producer needs to turn a shilling somehow and that probably means no leisurely sitting with the clam by the window, awl in hand and jazz on the tunes.
The search continues. Pictures soon.
Stephen :-)
Can't say I have @stephenkgavin but I would look towards saddlery supply companies for something similar.
Hi, Stephan,
I recently ordered a collection of brass hardware from a tannery in Sweden that is closing down. They still have a vast variety. They sent me a collection of pictures with articles in assorted in rows and columns and an excel sheet explaining each article. Got the address from this board. They may not have the exact same rings and hooks, but at least very similar.
Like the work on your belt. Are the rivets screwed or hammered?
Please contact me for the email address of the guy in Sweden.
