Hello everyone! Maybe someone can help me! I found that gold plated hardware is too thin plated (MMColombo) and so I decided for myself that I will most of the time use solid brass or nickel.
I heared that some people remove the laquer that some brass hardware has. What is the downside using laquered solid brass? Will it be scratched and you will see parts getting significantly darker?
I heared that the laquer is quite durable, any experiences?
If someone can help, I will be happy:-)!
@kilian Lacquer will wear off far faster than gold plating. Lacquer has to stick to polished metal without a primer, so nothing is going to do well under those conditions, not even ceramic.
Yes, it will eventually wear off and patina in patches just like gold plating unfortunately.
Personally I really like the deep and rich patina from my favourite raw brass buckle.
Hi, laquered solid brass is only to keep if from tarnishing. Like if you se and orchestra, with the big horns, super shiny. They dont have the time to buff it out every week, so they use a laquer.
Yes, its super hard, and will keep your brass gold for ever if only touched by hands. But if used on something that gets a lot of wear. Buckles ect. it will rub of
