I am looking to give piping a try (small crossbody bag) and looking for inspiration/advice on Instagram I came across this picture from made_by_nichols an excellent UK based leatherworker who I’m sure Phil is familiar with.
Does anyone know what is going on with the small cuts on the rounded corners?
Hello,
yes, the small cuts are made so that piping bends around the corner and doesnt get warped and deformed.
Basically, when you do the little incisions, each small "cut" acts as if it is almost a separate piece of leather and you can bend the piping around the corner easily.
Also, Rory (I think that's his name) rocks!
