Ostrich leg

@julievinsant1 Having not used ostrich leg on a project before I can't say for sure. Hopefully someone who has used it before will offer their advice.

The same thing happened to me, but that’s because I had asked the supplier, RM Leather, to split the leg to a 0.6-0.8mm thickness. (In fairness to RM, they did email me beforehand, and cautioned me against doing it. I chose to go ahead with it, mainly because I wanted to see how it would turn out.)

So is your ostrich leg unusually thin?

In the case of mine, I bonded it to a sheet of ripstop nylon before cutting it out and using it. This helped, but I don’t know how well it’ll hold up over time.

You could probably also bond it to a piece of canvas. (I once bought some snakeskins from a guy in Hong Kong, and they arrived already-bonded to canvas. I reckon they would have been too thin/fragile otherwise.)
