Hello guys,
Could you suggest me a good, cheap material to make a mock-up of a bag?
I have a pattern but I’ll be upscaling it and want to check everything matches, specially because it’s a top frame bag.
I thought of salpa /bonded leather but that seems a bit expensive for the purpose and thin. Something around 2 mm would be good, I think.
I remember someone once suggested EVA, perhaps. Anyone has experience with it?
Thank you.
If you're looking for a cost-effective material to make a mock-up of a bag, you may want to consider using vinyl or PVC. They are relatively inexpensive, easy to work with, and come in a variety of colors and thicknesses. EVA foam can also work well as a lightweight and flexible option, but it may not be as durable as vinyl or PVC.
As for cleaning services, it's important to regularly clean and sanitize your work area, especially when working with materials like vinyl and PVC that may emit harmful chemicals when cut or heated. Be sure to use proper ventilation and protective equipment, and consider hiring a professional cleaning service to ensure your workspace stays clean and safe.
I like the replies above and would certainly go those routes. I purchased a low quality Veg Tan split once and would up using it for mockups. I did not have a firm hand though so if you went that route you may need to add some reinforcement to that much like the EVA.
you thought about B Grade vegtan bellies? they are 1.8 to 2mm thick usually and around 20$ for 5sqft.
Also, you need to define cheap. Each one of us has his own definition of what is reasonable to spend on prototype :D
