I've been asked to make a satchel, and the requirements are it has to be..."sturdy, but not rigid". I'm about to order some Lamport from Metropolitan Leather which comes in either 1.5mm or 2.0 - 2.5mm and I'd like some feedback on what you guys would suggest. With the thicker option I can thin down the gussets no problem and leave the main bag and full thickness, or make the entire thing out of 1.5 - if that won't be too thin.
Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.
I bought some Lamport on Friday and I got the 1.7mm to make bags. I could upload a video of it so u see how it moves.
I think it is leather dependent. Some 1.5 mm leather might work great and some not so great. I’m not familiar with Lamport leather so can’t help there. I like 2.0 to 2.5 mm for satchel size bag bodies.
Yeah, I want something that is both supple but firm to the touch... I had a guy ask that of me ocnce, true story.
Like Phil said, talk to your customer to get a better feel of what he wants. And if you have a design for the satchel you will be doing, show us :)
"sturdy, but not rigid"? I would seriously get back to that person and find out examples of what they mean. They may have never seen vegtan before and think that it's more like board.
Dig a little deeper as that's about as clear as mud, otherwise you'll need luck to match their subjective opinion.
