Many Thanks for the response. I have used a small hammer none metal and that did not make any difference then the larger one, the two pin goes in like a treat. I did think that it may be the number of teeth trying to perpetrate the leather at once. making it more difficult, that is why I opted for the larger hammer, don't get me wrong I don’t hit them hard, the weight of the hammer should be suffice. I have a Dremel and some polishing pads so will give that a go, but how would I polish the inner section of the pins/teeth, would some leather and compound wrapped around the teeth do the trick?
I have only used these once and I didn't get on well with them, but I imagine that if you could polish these up, that would help with their penetration/extraction.
I would use a pair of safety glasses, a Dremel with a felt pad and polishing compound.
Just make sure the pad is rotating away from the points at high speed or it'll stick and spit.
Can you take a picture of your irons? I am mainly interested in seeing of they are round dents (pointy tip that pierces and then compresses the leather around it) or round punches (round tip that cuts wholes in the leather).
Also, how thick is the leather and what hammer are you using to punch?

Yeah, a hammer will not help. I have a pair of these same irons and unless i use a heavy mallet, they do not go in.
