Hello all, I am hoping that you can help. I want to add some leather to a wooden chair (unsupported seating and back). Someone suggested English Bridle leather as its firm and two layers can support heavy weight with no firming material. Is that the case? Which thickness would you suggest? Where is the best place to source it?
Thank you,
L
thank you so much :)

@LYDIE I think we need to see the design of the chair in question as thicknesses are completely dependant on how the leather is going to be used, i.e. woven, braided, solid or upholstered over a foam core.
For ideas, Pinterest will have a million pics to reference
I think that there are two questions here. First is suitability. I don't know the answer but, here in the UK, I would contact someone like Alma Leather and ask them, as specialist suppliers, what would they recommend.
Alma will also supply but i don't know about bridle. I get mine (again in the UK) from Abbey England and Metropolitan leather. I know that Abbey supply leather from Sedgwick. They seem to have the reputation for the finest bridle leather but, as I have not tried them all, I can only offer what I have been told
Hi Lydie, have you checked out Wickett & Craig? They make a very high-end English Bridle Leather that is thick. I've used it on a few projects and have been happy with it. I've always had mine split down but I believe they make some as thick as 12oz.
