Hi everybody,
my question is about using Fiebigs Dy’s for edge dying.
First, what is the difference between Fiebigs Pro Dy and Fiebigs Oil Dy.
And when applying to the leather edge FIRST a”BASE COAT"solution of PVA/ Water 50/50.
Which Fiebigs dy will be the BEST to dye the edge thereafter??
Hi Fadi,
my idea to make first a PVA base coating is when dealing with “fluffy” crome tanned leather be. When applying first PVA coating I will have the benefit of a more sturdy edge.
And thereafterI can sand the edge to close all fibers perfectly
So I will benefit from a much easier handling when applying the color dye later
Ok, will check it out and will let you know
Hallo Fadi
many thanks
now another question using Fiebigs Pro Dye for edge painting
when I did apply PVA 50/ water 50 percent soluZion as base coat
can I dye the edge with Fiebigs dye
will the Fiebigs dye penetrate?
Hello,
"Pro Dye" = new name
"Oil Dye" = old name
that's it. same product, just a name change
Fiebing.com:
'Pro Dye is also an alcohol based dye created specifically for natural strap leather, vegetable tanned leather and bag & case leather. Excellent coverage and superior color fastness.'
They don't list oil dye on their website so I suspect they don't make it anymore. I don't use it myself I'm afraid so I can't comment on the difference.
Pro dye after prep, but you must test this on scrap before committing on any project.
