So I only use brass on the things I make, but lately, people are wanting things in silver.
Right now im mostly doing dog collars, and before I order, I want to get the right thing.
Found this on a sewing blog. Super interesting.!
I was going to get them in stainless steel, but maybe nickel plated brass is better? Dogs do get in to water ect.
I usually for anything plated brass for all my hardware.
Mostly because stainless steel can rust... specially in salt water. Basically, it all depends on the "grade" of the SS. Most will be in 304 or lower . And 304 will corrode close to the sea. The grade of non corroding SS is 316, but it tends to be more expensive and harder to work with so most people do not use it.
(I work with SS on a daily basis with my day job).
So, knowing that, i always go for Brass
I wouldn't look too much into that test to be honest. There should be no difference with the nickel plated steel and the nickel plated brass unless damaged.
I also wouldn't put full trust in the factory descriptions that come with those pins. Most are probably made in Chinese factories who will say whatever is needed to sell the most product.
Personally the only steel I use is stainless steel for that reason alone. A dog will definitely wear through plating of any kind eventually.
Abbey England and Abas Fashion accessories both sell nickel plated brass buckles if I remember correctly.
