I came across this video today which shows Gaziano & Girling shoemakers collaborating with Ettinger London, who specialise in quintessentially English style leather goods.
They are working on a folio case, but to make the product different, they have added a patina with a brogue wingtip design that really makes the piece stand out.
What do you think of it overall?
Great choice, Phil! Love the boots. Great call.
As an old soccer player, I can't get used to the feel of shoes up around my angles. Hey, what if we brogued a pair of Copa Mundials?
Somebody get Adidas on the phone. Quick!
@Fadi @smithdal I understand both perspectives. I personally don't care for the style but I do like a coloured patina.
All craft aside, from a purely business perspective, the folio case is an easy upsell to a customer who is about to blow some serious cash on a pair of hand made shoes.
'Sir, if you would permit me to show you a matching case that I believe will compliment the shoes perfectly and make you look the shiznit' etc
What do you guys think of broguing? I'm not sure how I feel about it outside of shoes..
Talking of which, I'm getting these brogue boots soon
@Leathercraft Masterclass and @Fadi ,
In general, I'm not a fan of applying patina, preferring to let patina and wear patterns accumulate on a bag as the owner uses it. That said, I like this project.
Adding a brogue to a bag is not new, but it is somewhat unusual, in my experience. In this case, however, the bag refers directly to its cousin, the shoe. Haven't seen this before that I recall. It's a fun bit of unexpected coordination. A wink -- a bag that admires shoes and that, maybe, in its daydreams, aspires try out the life of other accessories.
Now I suppose we need a shoe that wants to be a bag. Maybe that's what a kilty is -- a sort of front flap on a shoe.
I do not honestly know what to think of it.
I like the fact that it is indeed thinking out of the box but i do not like the final result. It has a certain "trying too hard" feel to it.
That is not saying that it is not a masterfully crafted product, not at all.
Also, i was thinking, the brogue tip design on the back pocket, where people usually put the newspaper or quick documents, what happens when it rains and the water gets into the holes? or maybe am I "thinking too hard"?
