Hi everyone,
Just wanted to start a discussion on the process of constructing a raised belt. I have done a few and have come out with the desired effect, but would like to make the process more efficient if possible. The way I have done it in the past is as follows:
1) Cut out three separate straps. One for the outward facing surface, one for the filler and one for the lining. The filler piece is typically cut about 6-10mm narrower than the liner. I usually make the lining leather the final dimension and then trim the surface piece after gluing down
2) I bevel the edges of the filler and then I use a scratch compass to mark along the inner facing edges of the liner to help with alignment of the filler piece. These two pieces are then glued together
3) Following gluing of the liner and filler pieces, I then overlay the surface piece and use bone folder to emphasize the raised filler.
4) The from there its standard edge finishing and stitching.
Although this process works fairly well, I find that it is difficult to keep the filler perfectly straight compared to the liner and this creates a bit of a wavy edge after the surface leather has been glued down.
I would love to hear about the process that others use in the hopes that I can improve mine.
