Hello everyone! In a workshop without big windows I would like to filter or vacuum the fumes / solvent from the gluing table. How can I do that? I read that activated carbon filter will filter solvent. On the other hand I read that it can be easily vacuumed because its heavier than the air and 'laying' on the table. I got stuck on my research and I would appreciate every tip, picture, ....
Thank you very much!!
When you work in leather people give you things they found at the junk store, as you know, and it would be rude to throw them out. That’s a homemade box covered in faux alligator covered in varnish that has since gone black and cracked.
Here's my glue/airbrush table. There's a blower above that sends the fumes outside. When using the airbrush I put a top on it, but prefer to airbrush outside when it isn't raining. It rains a lot here. The box is at a slight angle so the fumes drain down to the tube connected to the blower. It's not beautiful, but it works. Perhaps someday when I am all caught up on orders (haha) I'll make a beautiful one.
I'll show you a doodle of what I mean...
Pegboard would probably make the best surface to use as a glue plate as it is perforated to allow the air and fumes to be drawn in.
Steel pegboard would last a long time, but wooden pegboard would easily be replaced instead of cleaning it. Cheap too.
@kilian If you have the space you could make a box with a mesh top where you can glue up your leather. Then you can make a hole in the side where an extractor fan can suck out the air and the fumes with it.
You can buy these for industrial gluing operations, but I don't think yours would need to be too big. Maybe A2 sized?
