FC Goods makes wallets and small goods using small pieces of vintage baseball gloves.
Their Limited Editions go for more than $600.00
i thought it was fascinating as these are being bought (and cost more - because of horrible blemishes, marks and wear) the stitch lines are awful - they may be trying to use original stitch holes but, it just goes to show - they created an apex $5 Million dollar a year business doing the exact opposite of what we try to do - I.e close to perfection - or bespoke.
The leather goods from FC Goods would be quite a bit easier for me to make with my current skill level - lol...
I thought if you did not know the brand - you might find this reference interesting.
I will intro myself soon! Thx!
@gusjackson3 Yes, their unique selling proposition is going to be more towards being a part of history and of course appealing to baseball fans rather than the accuracy of their stitching, which is rugged and works well with the look of each product I think.
Hermès by contrast was recently valued at almost 18 billion US dollars. They also hand stitch many products and always and fuss over details in the pursuit of perfection - exactly what we do!
You can see it's difficult to make a direct comparison to financial success and the methods employed.
I think the success of a company comes down to many things, but it's important that we decide on what makes us unique and different from the crowd. For some that will be precision, for others it will be selling history, nostalgia or status.
Thank you for contributing here Gus! A very interesting find indeed.
It would be great if you popped over to the Introduce Yourself section and shared a little about yourself and your journey in leathercraft so far. I know we'd all be interested to know! Cheers.
