Here is a PDF from Pan American Leathers Inc on how to choose exotic leather when designing a bag, specifically handbags.
There is some handy advice too on sewing around and dealing with the calcium deposits present in some reptilian skins that may also be applicable to hand stitching as well.
What tips did you find most useful? š
Who would have thought of using a Dremmel?!
This is really a nice little guide, specially for people who want to try exotics but don't know where to start (like me!).
P.S: please don't tell me some of you will read the guide on your mobiles??? :p
Interesting read. Thanks for posting. I didnāt realize the difference in hardness between alligator and crocodile. I havenāt worked with exotics yet. When I look at skins I would find myself looking at crocodile since they are less expensive. Now I know thatās probably not the skin to start with.
I have read in different places that alligator skin is āhard to work with,ā usually with little explanation about what make it difficult. Beside lining up scales so they look nice, are there other aspects that make them hard to work with?
